Bellingrath Middle School

Welcome to Bellingrath Middle School, a tuition-free public charter school serving grades 6–8 in Montgomery, Alabama. As part of the Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA) network, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally rich environment where every scholar is valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

At Bellingrath, our teachers use data-driven instruction, small-group learning, and a rigorous, personalized curriculum to ensure every scholar receives the support they need to master key academic skills. Through individualized attention and differentiated learning, we help scholars grow in confidence, curiosity, and leadership.

 Beyond academics, we offer a variety of enrichment programs that allow scholars to explore their passions and connect learning to the world around them. From basketball, soccer, and track to STEM, art, robotics, and student leadership clubs, every scholar has opportunities to learn, lead, and shine. Our partnerships with families and the local community provide additional support, creating a safe and engaging environment for all.

 At Bellingrath, we believe every scholar has the potential for greatness. We prepare students to become confident learners, compassionate leaders, and engaged citizens—ready to thrive in school, at home, and in their communities.

Growth

As part of the PLA network, Bellingrath Middle School reflects this mission through rigorous instruction, strong family partnerships, and a caring environment where every scholar is empowered to learn, lead, and thrive.

Bellingrath Middle School is a Montgomery Education Foundation (MEF) charter school, created through a partnership between MEF and Phalen Leadership Academies. As an MEF charter, Bellingrath operates as a public school committed to serving neighborhood families while maintaining high academic expectations, strong community connections, and innovative approaches to learning that meet the needs of scholars and the Montgomery community.

At Bellingrath, our data-driven instruction and small-group learning ensure every scholar receives personalized support that builds academic growth, confidence, and curiosity. Through engaging, hands-on lessons, we prepare students to think critically, work collaboratively, and lead with purpose.

Bellingrath offers a wide range of enriching opportunities—including STEM, art, robotics, athletics, and student leadership clubs—designed to support the whole child. Scholars benefit from 1:1 technology access, free transportation, nutritious meals, and a complimentary summer learning program through Summer Advantage. Families also have access to career development and community programs, supporting success for the entire household.

McKinney-Vento Act

The McKinney-Vento Act protects scholars from discrimination based on their lack of a permanent residence. Homeless Scholars are eligible to receive a variety of services including: transportation services, free meals under the school nutrition programs, limited English proficiency class, gifted and talented programs, and special education services based on a scholar’s eligibility. Homeless Scholars will not be denied enrollment based on lack of proof of residency. Please consult the McKinney-Vento Act Liaison if you need assistance.
